For the Teens,
I understand that this phase of life can often feel like a whirlwind of confusion, fear, and excitement all rolled into one. It’s perfectly normal to have moments when you’re afraid of growing up and facing the world, but I want you to know that everything will be okay. More than that, I want you to understand just how incredibly capable you are to take on the world at your feet.
I know exactly what it is like to stand on the cusp of adulthood, uncertain about the path ahead, worried about the unknown, and often yearning for the simplicity of childhood. I’m standing there right now. The transition from adolescence to adulthood can be so incredibly overwhelming because we are leaving behind the only way we’ve ever known how to live. But, as terrifying as it feels, it’s also a remarkable and transformative time in your life. You’re at the threshold of discovering who you truly are, what you’re passionate about, and what you can achieve.
“You’re always afraid to take the first step, because all you see is every negative thing 10 miles down the road. You can do anything you want, you are bound by nothing. What are you passionate about? What do you want?” ~ Robin Williams
I want you to take a deep breath and embrace the changes that lie ahead. Growing up is not about losing your innocence or your dreams; it’s about gaining wisdom, strength, and the power to shape your own destiny. Don’t let people tell you that you need to forget who you are in order to step into this new phase of your life. The person you were got you here today, through thick and thin, and for that, they deserve to be remembered. While it might sometimes feel that way, remember, you’re not alone on this journey. Many individuals, such as parents, teachers, friends, and mentors, believe in your potential and are here to support and guide you through life’s intricate maze.
Remember, it’s okay to be afraid. Fear can be a powerful motivator. It can drive you to learn, adapt, and evolve. It’s the engine that propels you forward when you feel stuck. So, when you feel that knot in your stomach or those butterflies in your chest, acknowledge your fear, but don’t let it paralyze you. Instead, let it fuel your determination to overcome challenges. Shoot for the moon, because even if you miss, you will still be among the stars.
“You are the universe, expressing itself as a human for a while.” ~ Eckhart Tolle
You are incredibly capable, more than you may realize. Our generation is resilient, resourceful, and adaptable. You’re equipped with an arsenal of information and tools that previous generations could only dream of. You have the power to make a difference in this world, to influence positive change, and to pursue your dreams with the overwhelming excitement and anticipation that fills you each time you think about them.
And let me assure you, the world is a vast and beautiful place, filled with opportunities waiting for you to seize. It may seem daunting at times, but each day you grow, learn, and gain the skills needed to navigate this world successfully. Embrace the learning process, make mistakes, and don’t be discouraged by setbacks. No one is ever an expert at something until they have experienced enough failures and learned from each one. It is the foundation beneath the very stepping stones on your path to greatness.
Your unique perspective, your dreams, your passions, and your voice matter. They are what make you so incredibly capable of making a mark in this world. Embrace your individuality, celebrate your strengths, and never doubt the power of your dreams.
“If you can, please look at the adolescence period through the lens of wonderment… Political movements were born through adolescense idealism, as were great art and music. Adolescence prepares us to get ready to leave home, live as independent adults, and make our mark on the world. In order to do this, young people need to learn to take greater risks, think creatively, and seek the unfamiliar.” ~ Lainie Liberti – Seen, Heard & Understood
In the end, remember that love and support surround you. Your loved ones believe in you, and so do I. You are on the brink of an exciting journey that will shape the rest of your life. Embrace it with open arms, for you are more than capable of not only facing the world but also making it a better place with your presence.
With all my belief in you,
We’ve got this.
“And in these next 50 years you will eat so many delicious meals, laugh so many times with so many people you love, shout and scream and sing and cry and smile so hard your face hurts. And you will see such beautiful sunsets and feel fresh cold air on your face and feel warm and safe wrapped up in your favourite winter coat.” ~ Unknown
